vice and crime and for raising the RoC ll1 standard to a highor plain While these efforts are put forth elsewhere why not advance the proposition here at home too Spanish Fork while comparing favorably perhaps with adjacent towns has many i wrongs which should benighted But of course if ever any of these wrongs bo 1 suppressed sup-pressed it will be accomplished by those who sin to sin no more It is the oil doer who must stop doing evil It I t is he who takes the name of God in vain who must discard profanity None others can do it for him Ho is the sinner Ho it is whom God will not hold guiltless guilt-less And it is my opinion that profanity this reckless thought less and dontcare profanity is one of the most demoralizing and pernicious evils extant in our city But what leads to profanity Show me the boy or young man who smokes and carouses upon tho streets aud in nine cases out of ten i I will show you a boy or a young man who profanes the name of God It is obvious then that the foundation found-ation for moro flagrant crimes is in smoking carousing drinking j these load to and go before profanity vulgarity vul-garity unchastity lay vulgarity wo mean vulgar smutty indecent talk and actions which let it be remarked re-marked are about the only kind of things homo of our young men engage i en-gage iu Those are tjio things we want to attack These are tho things which sap the vital strength from a city struggling for a good nathe Tho name that attaches to a city depends de-pends bolely upon tho words and actions of thoao of whom it is com posed A society founded upon good aotions tend pure wholesome sensible language is the society that is famed and cheered tho world over But n society the members of which aro profane vulgar boos era1 and tho like is hardly fit to bury in a cesspool and wholly unfit un-fit to bear the mono of respectability i respectabil-ity Where a majority of its young and middleaged men are of the latter class whero they are dooid of the principles of true manhood a city must bear the stigma that they entail upon it It is my candid opinion that at least ball of the male portion of Spanish Fork belong to this class If not how is it that a small city like this can support and feed fat four nourishing saloons Not only that but observation 1 thint warrants war-rants that this is true And this no doubt accounts for the lumps of shaiuo we see Haunting themselves them-selves along tho streetjust mor ged from some dark apartment under the guiso uf decent society Those are the tb lugs that should be rooted out and ill i their stead should be erected a monument of society unsullied and untainted by tho etigniit of profanity crime and do Imuchory Huh who shall rear this monument 1 pause to reflect 0 J Milton FOR SALfJA
