Show Celebrates 80th Birthday The friends and relatives of Grandma Sarah Measom were gathered at the home of Thomas Measom her son in Lake Shore ward on Thursday August 19th to the number of eightyone in honor of her 80th birthday The speech of welcome was made by Henry Tilley 6f this city The occasion was commemorated com-memorated by songs speeches and recitations reci-tations by members of the family and others The hymn Now let Us Rejoice Re-joice in the Days of Salvation was sung as the opening piece and they closed with the beautiful piece Count Your Blessings A biographical sketch of Sister Mea som was read by Phillis Anderson Hone in which the following facts were brought out Sister Measom was born in one of the sunny isles of far away East India the Island of Pooner on August 19th 1829 Her father James Hill a soldier was killed at the battle of Caw Bull After her fathers death her widowed mother with four childred went back to England her native land where she 1 settled at Burton Lentershire In 1818 she married Thomas Measom I by whom she had eleven children In 1855 her husband became a member of the Mormon church and in 1857 she also became a memberand in 1870 they emigrated for Utah and came to Spanish I Span-ish Fork where she has resided ever since She was left a widow in 1883 with the younger portion of her children chil-dren to care for When she became too old to perform household duties she I went to live with her youngest son I A splendid supper was served which comprised all the good things to be had The whole affair taken all together was without doubt one of the most enjoyable en-joyable affairs ever witnessed in LakeShore I I Lake-Shore In conclusion we wish Grandma Measom many happy returns of the I day v I |
