Covering what matters most SCIENTIFIC ADVANCEMENT: Fourth through sixth-grade students at Larsen Elementary learned about chemistry and physics through the Clarke Planetarium's AstroVan presentation. Students were able to see how temperature changes the states of matter from solid to liquid to gas. The temperature of nitrogen was lowered to 300 degrees below zero. Students loved the entire presentation but the crowd stopping events included freezing a rubber racquetball in liquid nitrogen and watching it shatter when thrown against a wall, passing around part of an asteroid, feeling heat radiating off of material that space ships are made out of and feeling how cold a liquid beaker was after haven been submerged in liquid nitrogen. Picture above, Shalanea Hoffman, Leo Gervilla and Aaron Braighton hold one of Clarke Planetarium's props after the presentation. Right, Jackson Henry holds an asteroid. Courtesy photo Mt. The moms also read a book with their children from the book fair, or from their children's classroom. Mt. Loafer appreciates the great support from the moms and know the children enjoyed reading with them, and are also grateful to the PTA who put together the activity.
