Show PAGE EIGHT SUGAR HOUSE, UTAH THURSDAY DECEMBER 24, 1959 : INDEPENDENT Carlisle attended Granite High School and was employed-b- y Breit-lin- g and w Construction before entering the Army. Sergeant Christensen, a fire team leader in the infantry's Company B in Baumholder, entered the Army in September 1958, completed basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas, and arrived overseas last April. He is a 1954 graduate of Maroni High School and attended College of South Utah. Christensen, son of Vegh G. Christensen, American Fork, was employed by Hottiens Brothers Masonry Contractors in Salt Lake City, before entering the Army. Sgt. Richard B. Fluehe, 21, whose wife, Janet, lives at 3786 20th East, entered the Army in September 1956. Sergeant Fluehe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Helmuth Fluehe, 2309 South 18th East, is a graduate of South High School. Cpl. Wayne E. Winkelkotter, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Winkelkotter, 580 South Emilia Street, entered the Army in Dec-ember 1957. He is a 1957 graduate of West High School and attended the University of Utah. He is a member of Lambda Delta Sigma fraternity. Servicemen Nev --Army Capt. Lane Fowler, whose wife, Norma, lives at 586 East 3635 South, Salt Lake City, Utah, recently completed the officer airborne course at The Infantry School, Fort Benning, Ga. Captain Fowler received his para-trooper wings after completing four weeks of intensive ground and aerial training and instruction in the techniques of air transportation and aerial delivery. The captain entered the Army in 1943. The1 officer is a graduate of South High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. His mother, Mrs. M. Fowler, lives at 459 East Thirteenth South, Salt Lake City. Captain Fowler is the son of William Fowler, Glensferry, Idaho. BERLIN- - Sergeant First Class Frank L. Culver, of the U.S. Army's Berlin Command, is utiliz-ing his off-du- ty hours repairing toys and assisting in preparations for the Christmas entertainment of orphaned children in the Berlin area. His father, Ernest B. Culver, lives at 1155 Zenity avenue, Salt Lake City. Each unit of the command annually sponsors at least one orphanage for the purpose of making the children's Chirstmas a happy occasion. Sergeant Culver, assigned to Company F of the 40th Armor, entered the Army in 1941 and was last stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash. He arrived overseas in October 1958. The sergeant is a 1937 graduate of Granite High School and attended the University of Utah. His wife, Norma, is with him in Germany. I FORT BENNING, GA. Salt Lake City soldiers completed the four-we- ek airborne course November 25, at The In-fantry School, Fort Benning Ga. They qualified as a parachutist and received training in the duties of a jumpmaster. MSgt. Melvin D. Butterfield, 27, whose wife, Arlene, lives at 3054 South 23rd East, entered the Army in 1950. He attended North Cache High School in Richmond. .His parents, Mr. and Mrs. George M. Butterfield, live at 4300 South 23rd East. BERLIN- - - -Army PFC Marvin L. Carlisle, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard M. Carlisle, 4096 Mars Way, Salt Lake City, was a member of the team which recently placed first in the Berlin Command touch football playoffs. An automatic rifleman in Company C of the 6th Infantry, Carlisle entered the Army in Feb-ruary of this year and received basic training at Fort Ord, Calif-ornia. He arrived overseas in July of this year. BAUMHOLDER, GERMANY- - -- Army Acting Sgt. David L. Christensen, 24, son of Mrs. Verna G. Thornton, 2479 South Imperial Street, Salt Lake City, Utah, recently participated with the 8th Division's 26th Infantry in combat efficiency " training tests in Germany. Service Clubs Kiwanis Club Of Sugar House Kiwanians of Sugar House met Tuesday, December 22nd, at Har-man- 's Cafe for their regular noon meeting. Master of Ceremonies, Wally Williams, conducted the pro-gram in honor of new members of 1959. Committee in charge was Kiwanis Education and Fellowship. Harold S. Carter gave the invocation. Members honored were: Maurice N. McKendrick, Edward J. Peters, Royal A. Watson, Dale L. Jackman, Lewis W. Miltenberger, Raymond B. Rogers, Harold S. Carter, Robert L. Conrod, Walter C. McKean, Leon Lister, and Dennis E. Bale. Lions Club SUGAR HOUSE LIONS The regular meeting of the Sugar House Lions Club was held on Monday, December 21, 1959, at 7:00 p.m. at Wrights, 1355 Foothill Drive. Lion Wif and the program committee arranged a special pro-gram, a film, 1959 All American Football Team. This was a run-down on the outstanding football players of the year. Special Music was furnished by the South High A'Cappella Choir, directed bv Armont Willardsen. EAST MILL CREEK LIONS East Mill Creek Lion's Club met today, December 24th at Clark's Cafeteria at noon. William J. Rue, super intendant of production at Hercules Powder Company was the guest speaker at the meeting Thursday. His dis- - cussion was centered on the sub-ject of the rocket and missile ( program relative to our nations place in the world. Musical numbers were provided. The club's annual Charter Party will be held this year on January 14, 1960 in the Union Panorama Room on the University of Utah campus. The committee in charge, under the direction of Lion Nelson Day assures us of a delightful party.
