Show A Finny Monster from the Hudson Hud-son The attention of passengers to and from the Barclay street ferry yesterday, yes-terday, was attracted by a hideous sou minister suspended in front of E. A. IJaker's fi.li stand. It i"as labeled in large letters, "Devil fish, caught by Caj.it Sam. Ludlow." The Hsh is over three feet iu length, and with t'-.e wings at its side.-s.just back of the head, measured lull three feet in breadth. The jaws are extended and the mouth is armed with doubl ; rows of teeth. The monster was capable of swallowing swallow-ing a two-sear old child with ease. A small bony rod with a filmy end runs out from the head just above the eyes for about a foot. This appendage was waved in the water for the purpose of luring fish within reach of the capacious capa-cious jaws. At the sides of the beliy, back of the wings, hang two flabby paws split in two suctions The tail is likewise bifurcated. The head and back are of a dark mud color, while I .he belly is white, tinged with red, like that of a skate. Captain Ludlow says he has captured many queer fish, but that this beats them all It was taken in a shad net npposite Hoboken. If it is not a devil fish, it is certainly a devil uf a fish, and well worth a visit. A". Y. iSw. |
