Show THE Page 4 OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume XII Issue XI September 15, 2005 Snowbasin Hosts Uphill/Downhill Race Snowbasin will host the Uphill/Downhill Race and Fall Festival on pase: October | beginning at 9:00 a.m. Arrive early, ride the gondola to the Needles Lodge, then cheer the racers on. Enjoy hiking on the mountain trails, magnificent views from the top of the ridge, a bratwurst from the barbecue and the Polkatonics band at the Needles Lodge. Mexican cuisine will be available on the plaza along with the sounds of a live Mariachi band. Ride the Gondola and enter a drawing for a Winter Season Pass. Gondola Passes are $8:00 for adults and $5.00 for children ages 7 through 12. Children 6 and under ride free. Snowbasin’s Uphill/Downhill offers two courses. Either run uphill—2,300 vertical feet from the plaza to the Needles Lodge—or go the full distance back down to the base. Register for the race now and save $10 off the $45 day of registration fee. Then we'll head up the seasonal highway past the Mount Timpanogos Wilderness Area to American Fork Canyon. She lived in the yoga ashrams in Vienna and Florida and spent a lot of time with the monks and people from all over the world who came to study it. It is a branch of yoga that focuses on meditation. It’s very different from the traditional yoga method. It uses only a few simple asanas (physical exercises) and breath work to get into a state of balance for meditating, which makes it good for people of all physical abilities, and for those who want specific help on meditating and relaxation. More than 75 visual artists are expected to present their work. Performing artists will appear on the stage at the Union Station Fountain Square and at an acoustic “café” on 25th Street. The winner of the poster contest for this year *s festival is Jeanine Downing. Her image of Union Station will be used in the poster design, with a limited number of signed prints available for sale to help underwrite the cost of the festival. Friday, October 7 will feature exhibits, arts demonstrations, and performing arts at Union Station, as well as Ogden’s First Friday Art Stroll, with many galleries and shops on Historic 25th Street, Washington Boulevard, and throughout Ogden presenting opening night receptions for their art exhibits. Saturday, October 8, from 10:00 a.m. to dusk, the Union Station Fountain Square and the 100 block of 25th Street will be lined with artist booths, musicians, and food and beverage vendors. Activities for children will also be provided. A Plein Air Paint Out will be held beginning at 10:00 a.m. Finished work will be submitted by 3:00 p.m. with cash prizes awarded to winners.
