Show MILFORD ATHLETIC CLUB DOWNS THE CHAMPIONS OF UNION PACIFIC SYSTEM HISTORY KFJ'KATS ITSELF AS BIG TEAM FROM I'OCATELLO LOSES 31 TO 22 LYN.NDYL ALSO GETS LACED The Pocatello Athletic Club, Union Pacific sy.-.tem champions, were handed hand-ed a defeat on the Milford floor Tuesday Tues-day evening by the local A. C, the score being 3! to 22- A strange coincidence coin-cidence repeated itself in the fact that two years a;;o exactly, the Pocatello Poca-tello team was beaten here 34 to 22. Milford lost a 7 to 5 lead at the quarter by being behind when the teams left the floor at the half, 10 to j 13. This lead was regained at the ' third half, 23 to 18, with the local team piling up a comfortable margin mar-gin at the close of the contest. The teams took the floor, before an extra large crowd, with Miiford starting Banks and Pearce as forwards, for-wards, Eettriuge, center, and Glenn and Eyre, guards. Marshall was injected in-jected into the fray at the half, at center, Bettridge going to Banks' I forward. Pure inability to hit the hoop kept the locals from taking a good early lead. In the last half, the defense moved up and checked the shooting of tlie lanky Idahoans and Marshall flip- ped in enough to tally 13 points by j himself. Pocatello started with Pickett and Dean, forwards, Trimmings, center, and Larson and Huber guards. Huber was ejected late in the game for too many fouls and Horrocks took his place. Dean and Pickett were the vi.-iiors' best point winners. Late in the game, the Idaho team seemed to be tiring a litle and the result became be-came evident. Cave Heslington rc-fereed the tilt. Pocatello left from here Wednesday on an extended trip during which they will play Caliente, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Sacramento, then reversing revers-ing the trip. Swamp Lynndyl Saturday evening, the Miiford club swamped Lyndyl by a score of 72 to 19. Two full teams were used by the locals as the first squad became tired from throwing so many baskets. The second string performed just about as good. This game puts Milford within with-in striking distance of the unit championship. cham-pionship. o . |
