Bigelow of Arrowhead Trail fame, passed through Cedar City again last Tuesday, bound for Zion, where he had some business with the State Road Commision, the officers of the Arrowhead raits Association, et. ul. Mr. Bigelow was seen a few min UtOS by a representative of this pa per. and stated that good progress was being made in the Improvements to the trail, He pent the two pre ions weeks in making a reconnoisiuu e across ths Arioi:a Strip from the site of the projected bridge over the Colorado to St. Geor; e, via Wolf-hole Wolf-hole and the Herd Houses Arizona has completed the reconnoisance of the read from Kingman to the CTOSI Ing of the Colorado River, which will be immediately east of the Grand Wash, and will span the stream at a height of from 180 to 180 feet above the low water inaik. Mr BigelOtt slates that a splendid rout' ha I ,, laid out for the road from st George to the river, with an easy grade all the way, and with only about three of light dugway work. Lieut. For the purpose, principally prin-cipally of completing this stretch of road to connect them with the Arrow-head Arrow-head Trail at St. George, Mohave Co., Arizona, will shortly vote a bonded indebtedness of $250,000. On the present route of the Trail j beyond St. George, a new survey has i been run for the road between Mc-quite Mc-quite and Littlefield, to connect with ! the new bridge over the Virgin, which will be built this fall. The change l will place the road about two miles further west, avoiding the heavv sand on the present route. The new bridge, to be constructed by Clark County this fall, between Mosquito and Bunkerville, will avoid the unpleasant and rather dangerous ford of the Virgin River, and remove one more unpleasant incident of the overland trip. With the construction of this bridge, the communities of Mesquite and Bunkerville have deeid ed to cooperate on a joint ditch ami heading, which will bring about 1600 acres of land under cultivation, and will improve their present irrigation temi It ll proposed to carry the water RCTOU the river from the Mc. quite to the Bunkerville side with a pipe line, which will ! earned b) the projected bridge These town are also planning for a new culinary water system, which contemplates the piping of some springs seven miles distant. Their present water supply, taken from the Virgin River, Is very un atisfactory Mr. Bigelow left rueaday afternoon, his objective for the day being Kill-more Kill-more II, wa- as full of vim and en thusiasm for the improvement of the Arrowhead Trail as ever. e |
