For one week (or perhaps a day or two less), the price of gasoline in Panguitch was lower than any other place in Southern Utah. Today as we were returning from St. George, I learned that we had lost this record by one cent to the station at the Summit exit. (I'm sure everyone hopes this downward trend continues!) Steven & Jillynn (Stewart) Moore had their new daughter, Samantha Mia Moore, blessed by her father in Steven's home ward. Since Mia is our 13th great grandchild, Evalyn and I, along with great grandmother, Lavenda Moore and her children and grand children; jpmidmother, Ann Stewart and her children and grand children; and several other relatives and friends, all met with Steven and Jillynn on this special occasion to show their love and support for them and their new daughter. The mothers, wives, and sisters in the group arranged a splendid picnic lunch which everyone enjoyed at a near-by park. Even the weather cooperated to make this a special day for everyone. Lavenda has' experienced both the joyful and sorrowful sides of life this past week. Just prior to the happy occasion of the baby blessing, she and her children and grand children had met with other relatives at Midway, Utah on the 20th of this month to pay theirfinalrespects to Lavenda's sister, Carol Ann (Reid) Spencer who passed away September 17th at her home in Midway. Carol Ann grew up in Panguitch' and graduatedfromPHS in 1957. (Our older residents will remember Carol Ann as a very pretty and popular young girl.) Members of the Henry Saddler Orton and Mary Elizabeth Orton family held a reunion at the Panguitch Lake Chapel on the 15th & 16th of September. Bob (Class of 1940) and Emma Dee (Orton) Houston were in charge of the reunion and they made sure that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable time by having their son, Joe, bring his catering truck to prepare the food. He prepared dinner Friday night and breakfast and lunch Saturday for around 225 and 250 family members. Genealogy was one of the main activities at the reunion. Jack Orton (Dee's son) had completed his book on the genealogy and history of the Orton family and brought copies so that anyone who was interested could purchase them. Everyone was delighted with the book and all bought one or more copies. Families of all of Henry and Mary Elizabeth's children were represented at the reunion with the exception of Rex and Cecil. Rex is the twin brother of Max Orton who is the father of Maxine (Orton) Haws, wife of Doug Haws. I was supposed to call Emma Dee to get a better report of all that went on and I failed to do this, but I did learn that everyone had a most enjoyable time and became better acquainted with relatives they had not seen for some time. (Reunions are always fun.) Hazel Cameron has had her daughters, Kay Owens and Arlene Bunker visiting with her for a week helping her get things ready to move to Mesa, Arizona. Hazel has sold her home here and will now call Mesa home. She told me that she would still spend some of her Summer days in Panguitch since she still has a daughter living here and she has lived here too long to get it out of her blood all at once! Terry and Linda (Henrie) Thomas from Las V egas recently enjoyed touring the Eastern part of our county as they enjoyed traveling through Capitol Reef to L-ake Powell and other scenic points in the area then returned home by way of the Burr Trail to Boulder, then America's newest scenic highway to Escalante then Panguitch where they picked up Linda's mother, Martha Henrie, and took her on to Las V egas for a weeks stay after which they brought her back to her home. Martha said she really enjoyed her stay in Las V egas and told me of her new great grandson, Robert Kenneth, son of Peggy and Richard Scott. This new addition to Martha's family is her 11th great grandchild.
