TI iey Trials of a Poet Once I had a little poem For the Dixie Owl, But I didnt hand it in Gause I knew theyd growl. We want it writ in pen and ink, they said, 'On paper smooth and white, Now if them things are handy That would be alright. But I had not pen nor paper, But a worn old sheet, And when I do try to write with ink It looks like chicken feet. Now I can write a poem Quick as quick can he, If I take it down in pencil While Ive got it, dont you see. Well I had this little poem All planned out one day. But when I searched for pen and ink It faded clear away. The fickle poem went away (Completely from my head, For while I looked I lost it all 19 And so, I went to bed.
