Viajaron a través de los Andes sin un neumático de repuesto, a través del Salar de Uyuni en Bolivia y a través del Desierto de Aracama en Chile sin un mapa. A pesar de esos peligros, los jóvenes dicen que no sintieron inquietud ni enfrentaron hostilidades de parte de la gente. “Decidimos que la mejor manera de evitar problemas era sonreír frecuentemente y mostrar con sinceridad nuestro aprecio e interés por la gente y sus culturas”, dijo Degagne. “Dondequiera que fuimos, la gente era muy amable”. “[De hecho] nuestro mayor problema fueron los neumáticos de la camioneta. Usamos 33”. Una mañana, en un pueblo de los Andes peruanos, Degagne y Mahak despertaron rodeados de niños, quienes se asomaban a través de las ventanas de la camioneta. Muchos de los niños nunca habían visto a un extranjero y el extraño coche capturó su curiosidad. “Llegamos a este pueblito [en medio de la noche] y nos dormimos”, en la plaza, dijo Mahak. En la mañana, “habían unos 100 niõs afuera esperando entrar a la escuela. Me desperté, agarré la manoja de la puerta del coche y salté fuera del auto. Estaban sorprendidos. Debí parecerles como un extraterrestre”. Nueve meses después del inicio de su aventura, el 1 de mayo de 2007, llegaron a Ushuaia. En el fin del mundo, aliviados, felices e inspirados, los jóvenes llegaron a su des- tino. No obstante, ni bien finalizado su trayecto, La Dulcita exhaló su última humareda y tuvo que ser remolcada a Buenos Aires. En ese entonces, el dinero también escaseaba y La Dulcita no estaba en condiciones para emprender el viaje de vuelta a los Estados Unidos. Degagne y Mahak decidieron vender a La Dulcita y tomar un avión de regreso a Utah. Una vez en casa ambos retomaron sus vidas y se unieron a la fuerza laboral. Degagne es un instructor de vuelo y Mahak está realizando una pasantía en una consultoría financiera. Al reflexionar sobre su viaje, los jóvenes dicen que la amabilidad de los latinoamericanos nunca dejó de sorprenderlos. Fue un viaje que transformó sus vidas, dijeron, porque aprendieron a adaptarse y a superar obstáculos. “Me encantó la aventura de conocer a nuevas personas y de ver nuevos lugares”, dijo Mahak. Su compañero de viaje dijo que “el viaje me abrió los ojos a que hay tanto por conocer en el mundo”. Degagne espera algún día regresar a la región y trabajar como piloto de avión durante unos años. Ciudad de México » El enojo es una reacción biológica natural del organismo y un medio de defensa adecuado, pero si se deja acumular la salud corre peligro, alertó Gerardo Leija Alva, académico de la Universidad Iberoamericana. El experto planteó que si bien la mayoría de los conflictos actuales ya no se resuelven a golpes sino con palabras los procesos biológicos son los mismos. Indicó que una presión sanguínea elevada de manera permanente afecta al corazón y las continuas frustraciones pueden generar males en el estómago, por lo que se debe desahogar el fastidio. Señaló que si bien se cree que lo mejor es contenerse se ha demostrado que ello puede acarrear severos problemas de salud, así como perjudicar a personas cercanas o a sí mismo en el aspecto físico y psicológico. Por ello, lo más adecuado es hablar, hacer ejercicios de respiración o caminar, pues si se intenta controlar el enojo desviándolo hacia otros aspectos, a la larga produce una sensación de fracaso.
