Show CITY COUNCIL the city council met last night in special session the mayor presided there were absent aldermen dunn and holdaway and councillors councilors Counci lors bean and brown i the mayor read a communication from the governor of colorado asking interest and operation cooperation co in alie effort being made by colorado and texas or the construction of a deep water on the cost of texas and inviting a tion from this city to attend a conven tion to be held in denver on the dinst for the prosecution of this movement mr daniels presented tho report of the streets and alleys committee appointed to consider the matter of constructing ting an artesian well which stated that the artesian well on the bench eliat they had visited was not complete dand asked that they have further time to consider the matter on motion the report was adopted and further time given in which to report it was by mr daniels that the probable cost of the well would be something between and the special committee appointed to solicit subscriptions for the purpose of defraying the expense of sprinkling the streets reported that the amount subscribed by the business men was 1465 per week the report was on motion accepted the supervisor was on motion of mr authorized to proceed at once to arrange some method for sprinkling the streets and to accept or reject such bids as may have been received by him for running the sprinkler claim of provo foundry machine co for piping etc for sprinkling pur purposes amounting to was presented and laid on the table until the marshal was present the claim of T E thurman for running the sprinkling cart twenty eight days at 3 per day amounting to 84 was presented mr maiben said ho understood the contract required eliat a man should run the sprinkler but he had noticed that a boy bad been doing the work he therefore thought the contract had not been complied with he opposed the allowance of the the marshal had approved the claim mr daniels understood that the sprinkler Bp was to be run not only by a good team but by a man not a boy besides part of the time the concern had been run by a balky thought 3 a day was too much for such service the claim on motion of mr daniels was referred to the committe on claims the claims of provo coop co op dinst as follows were allowed 1630 and 20 cents claim of soren jensen for ringing the curfew bell eight weeks at mounting la to 8 was allowed claim of cluff booth co for material and labor for sextons sex tons house and for plowing and scraping road in cemetery amounting to was presented mr fairer understood of course there was an agreement as to this obligation but he was under the impression that the work could be done for half the amount charged by cluff booth co besides lie wanted the records referring to it he therefore moved that the claim be referred to a joint committee of the committees on cemetery and claims the motion carried application of S M duggins for renewal of license as a liquor dealer was presented the application was on motion granted mr farrer thought that the language of some portions of the ordinance for licensing saloons in this city was somewhat gagae and therefore moved eliat the ordinance be referred to the corn 4 cittee on judiciary and the city attorney tor consideration in view of recommending amendments the motion carried the communication of the assessor asse sor asking the council to make certain remittances mit and abatements was alien taken up and considered there was quite a grist of recommendations in this re sport and mostly all were adopted the council then adjourned |
