A Debating Society for a joint de de- bate If the challenge is accepted the debate will probably take place at the University about the of March It was a lively crowd that met in the Delta Phi Society Rooms last Monday night and it was a d lively mee meeting ing that was held The question question question ques ques- tion Resolved That the V Worlds World's orld's Fair should not be closed on Sunday was debated The judges after retiring for a few moments reported reported reported re re- ported their decision Affirmative Here the fun began It se seems ms that the constitution of the Society states that the decision of the judges sh shall ll be affirmative or negative It is apparent from this that the object object object ob ob- of the framers of the constitution was to have the balloting of the judges secret To render a decision then Affirmative unanimously unanimously 1 was to defeat their object The president pres ident of the Society taking this fact into a consideration im immediately arose and reprimanded reprimanded reprimanded the chairman of the judges for making making making mak mak- ing such a report The critic at the close of the meeting severely criticised the president for his action and said that in his estimation the presidents president's attack upon the judges was too previous altogether The ire of the gentleman addressed was aroused and calling the vice-president vice to the chair he took the floor and in one of his characteristic characteristic characteristic character character- speeches hurled back the accusations accusations accusations at his accuser and by quoting Roberts Rules of oj of Order the constitutions of various societies Websters Webster's Unabridged and a half-dozen half other volumes proved that he was doing hi his duty his whole duty and and nothing but his duty During a lull in the the excitement a motion to adjourn was carried t I tand and most of the gentlemen went home The few who remained collected on the front steps and an hour and a half's discussion took place on the great questions Secret Societies Societies Societies Socie Socie- ties and Womans V omans oman's Rights As a result some of the gentlemen have been nursing for forthe forthe forthe the past week their repair out vocal chords At the Delta Phi to night to-night night speeches will be made on n the five great men whose deaths have so recently occurred All are invited to at at- tend The following is the program President Ex-President Hayes E.
