Show I A DASTARDLY IMPUTATION. The attempt of tho Tribune to make -J H It appear to tho public that tho pros- ent county clerk, J. U. Eldredgo, Jr., B is responsible for tho skin bounty frauds practiced under County Clerk James is dastardly in uio extreme. Tho frauds wore perpetrated between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 1904, when tho ex-coun- ly clerk was in personal charge of tho a onlco himself. Tho ex-clork knows Just how much or how little ho Is to I blame for tho stealings and it is a most dishonorable thing for either tho I ox-clerk or his organ, the Tribune, to I try to shift tho blamo upon thoso who have not and could not have had any responsibility in tho matter. It is a mnttor of public knowledge that Mr. Eldrodgo absolutely and completely severed his connection with tho former county clerk's offlco on Sept. 24, 1904, and had absolutely nothing to do with t In any shape or form until January -mi of this year, when he entered on ns duties as county clerk. It was after no left tho office as deputy clerk and Wore ho returned as county clerk mat tho frauds were committed. |
