Show o EDITORIAL o New developments are coming to a head concerning the release of Bernt Murphy, confessed slayer slay-er and sex offender from the American Am-erican Fork Training School. Admittedly, Ad-mittedly, it was a mistake to release re-lease such a mentally deficient person and we've already said our piece about that. The thing to work toward now is what will be done in the future when confronted confront-ed with a similar problem. Because the American Fork Training School is a state institution, institu-tion, Utah's Governor Geo. Dewey Clyde is taking a 'very personal interest in the situation and his latest actions include the appointment appoint-ment of a special seven man committee com-mittee to study "the whole problem prob-lem of mental illness and deficiency defi-ciency and sex offenders." This is concrete action and we feel that the governor is genuinely interested in the problem of mental men-tal illness, because his selection of investigative personnel appears to be a wise .choice. The seven members include: Dr. Joseph N. Symons, Dr. Anthon S. Cannon, Keith Wilson, D. A. Skeen, Mrs. I. R. Morrison, Morris Rosenblat. and John Farr Larson. The qualifications of these people peo-ple include: a former president of the Utah Association for Men-" Men-" tal Health, two university sociology socio-logy professors, a chief agent of the Utah Adult Probation and Parole Pa-role Department, an industrialist and an attorney. With his educaional cross-sec-ion put to work on the tate's mental problem something should shape up fast. We are quite sure it will, because we have some information in-formation concerning the American Ameri-can Fork Training School that we are confirming before turning it over to the committee. If this information in-formation checks out accurately, and so far it has, we will be able! to give them something really "hot" to start on. Of course, we will publish the story too ... . . On Monday evening., Dick Chris- tensen served as host at a dinner which he gave for sixteen guests. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Hand invited eighteen guests and members mem-bers of the family to a wedding , breakfast which they hosted for their nephew, Larry Kirby and the new Mrs. Kirby, who is the former Shirley Ann Martinsen. The couple was united in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. Later that jsoq sba uasuBH 'A3H 3M1 'ep to eight people at a dinner. |
