Show OGDEN DEMOCRATS. Tho New York "Sua" Commends Their Platform. AV ashing ton, D. C, March IS. The Sun devotes its principal i ditorial to-day to a chaiacteristic review of the platform recently adopted by the AA'ebar county Democrats. The editorial edi-torial commences in this fashion: "Here is some good, sound Democracy, though it comes all the wa from Utah. The Democracy of AVeber county in that territory lately adopted a platform of which this is the essential essen-tial part." The Sun then prints the platform in full, and adds: "The sixth resolution is one that the Democratic party has needed badly in recent years and may need again. Belief in the cardinal principles of Democracy makes a man a Democrat. I'o make his belief on temporary, accidental, or non-political questions the test of his Democracy is to put the non-essential before the essential. In selecting a candidate for office close consideration must be given to all his qualifications and disqualifications, disqualifi-cations, but every man is a Democrat who subscribes to the fundamental articles of Democracy. In the last few years there has been a furious effort on the part of the free traders to read out of the party every protectionist Democrat. It is a queer way of strengthening a party, to drive people out of it because they will not worship this hobby or that. The AVeber county plan is the better one.'' Herald. |
