One Iiisiiinre in Winch the Deception of a Husband Was a Kindness. C. E. Hranson, 0110 of the two Ogden architects who were arrested on a charge of embezzlement, who could not furnish bale was yesterday committed to jail and taken to Salt Lake City in the custody of a United States marshal. On Tuesday night, although under arrest, Branson slept at home instead of in a prison cell and his wife did not know the bad plight her husband was in. The 3tory of this part of the affair reveals the magnanimity both of the husband and of the United States authorities, and can not fail to win the sympathy of a number of people for this unfortunate nrchitect and his grief stricken w ife. On Tuesday evening, although unable to obtain bail, Branson was still hopeful for the morrow, and in order that his wife might be spared the bitterness of a knowledge of his trouble he begged the ollicers to place his house under guard and let him spend the night at home. Two United States marshals escorted him to his residence and Branson entered as though nothing w as' w rong. What happened within can only be surmised. The marshals kept guard throughout the night and by a prearranged plan their prisoner promptly placed himself in their charge again in the morning. Later in the day, when his failure to obtain bail was apparent and he had only a short time longer before his removal to the jail at Salt Lake Bronson Bent for his wife.
