Show EVERY MORNING

THE cold spells we are having perhaps work more good than damage to at least some of our land holders; for should we have unceasing warm weather the snow in the mountains would be melted so fast, that our overflowing streams would do considerable damage in various ways.

The other day Thomas Holland was riding a horse, when a friend mounted on behind him. This frightened the steed and caused him to jump when the former was thrown to the ground and - well, no bones were broken, but his face was somewhat scarred and his thumb badly bruised.

THERE is so much freight to pass over the U. & N. at present, that with the moving of the ??? it is found impossible to furnish the requisite number of cars just as demanded. However the officials are energetic and will do all in their power to give satisfaction to patrons.

THE laudable work of building still continues. A noteworthy fact too is that the houses erected and in course of erection are nearly all intended for the homes of those who are having them put up. Considerable interest also is being taken in putting up new fences and repairing the old ones. This shows the right kind of enterprise.

NOTWITHSTANDING that Wall Paper has advanced 3 (?) per cent in the east, I will sell at old prices until my present stock is exhausted - except the 25 cent paper, which I have advanced to 31 cents per roll. I am enabled to do this on account of purchasing before the advance in price. JAS. T. HAMMOND, Bookseller and Stationer, Logan City. apr30-1m

AT the depot yesterday we saw the new handgear velocipede which has just been received by the U. & N. Ry. Co., for the use of the Road Master. It is an unique little vehicle, which can be worked by one individual; and is so arranged that it can be taken apart and fit in a passenger car at will. Having such a car enables the Road-Master to go from one point to another without trouble and to carefully observe the condition of the track. From 17 to 18 miles per hour can easily be made by an experienced operator. |
