Show Prayers That Are Condemned. (Catholic Record.) There are a number of prayers that some Catholics persist in using which are condemned by the church. One of them is described as having been "found in the tomb of Our Savior." That and other unauthorized un-authorized prayers the Sacred Congregation Congrega-tion of Indulgences have condemned. The following is a translation of the list: First The Litany of the Blessed Virgin of Sorrows, alleged to have been composed com-posed by Pius VII. Second A salutation to Mary Mother of Sorrows, made after the model of the Ave Maria. Third The beads of the Crown of Thorns, so called, each grain of which resembles re-sembles the head of an animal, representing represent-ing the Birth of Our Lord, between an ox and an ass. Fourth A revelation alleged to have been made to St. Bernard regarding the wound in the shoulder of Our Lord. Fifth The rosary of the merits of the Passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Sixth The words supposed to have been uttered by the Blessed Virgin when she received in her arms her beloved son. Seventh A prayer to the Saviour or' the world. Eighth A prayer to Pope St. Gregory, written to St. John at Rome in letters of gold. Ninth A prayer to the Holy Cross, to which Is attached the promise of the deliverance de-liverance of five souls from Purgatory if recited five times on Fridays. Tenth A letter of Jesus Christ, on the drops of blood which He shed on the way to" Calvary, said to have been found in the sepulchre of Our Lord. Eleventh A spurious brief of St. Anthony An-thony of Pedua. Twelfth A book, entitled "Crown of the Saviour," etc. Thirteenth The prayer to the Blessed Virgin, beginning: "Hall, O Sovereign Virgin," etc. Fourteenth Lastly, a prayer in memory of the glorious death of St. Benedict,' with the promise of graces ineffable. |
