Show DEATH OF FATHER BARRON. Rev. Joseph Barron, pastor of St. Mary's church, Los Angeles, died last week. Father Barron was highly esteemed es-teemed by all who knew him. Twice within the last two years Father Barron, Bar-ron, with Rt Rev. Mgr. Harnett, V. G., of the diocese of Los Angeles, visited Salt Lake, the last occasion being at the dedication of the cathedral last August. His winsome ways and wit won for him many friends in this city. At the funeral services, speaking of his work, Bishop Conaty said: "We gather today, priests and people, peo-ple, to mourn the loss of an earnest self-sacriicing, learned, pious priest. The memory of his gentle life will long remain with all who knew him. With all the refinement of a gentleman gentle-man and a scholar, he had an intense love for the spiritual. We, his brethren breth-ren of the clergy, have looked upon him as one of our elders in whom we had confidence and respect and everyone every-one recognized in him not only the ability of the scholar but also the learning and piety of the priest My intercourse with him for seven years has been very close, and I had confidence confi-dence in his Judgment and respect for his opinions and admiration for the sweet gentleness of his humble life. Father Barron has left in this parish monuments of his zeal and self-sacrifice." In those laudatory remarks all who knew the deceased will heartily join. His memory will be always dear to those who had the pleasure of knowing know-ing him in life. |
