Show THE EDITOR OF THE BOISE CLIPPER. HflH The editor of the Boise Clipper has visited Salt BsIiIB t Lake. At least the article in the Clipper begins BfisHK with the editorial "we," which is supposed in most fiVHB' countries to mean the paper but in Idaho the edi- mlmtiillBl tor. lie does not like Salt Lake, or Salt Lake peo- BbIIB! pie, evidently. Kiilflllfl Perhaps he was not received with the honors HBIIH' due him, but that was his own fault. He did not BfflBiliB send a John the Baptist or even a telegram that HfiH he was coming. He counted the saloons and the BBmHiB houses of prostitution, the houses not connected iillSH with the sewers, declares that there is no building BralflllB going on, but that the rents are something fearful, BrUH which, by the way, is not more logical than somo SkPbB other things in the article, for excessive rents are SnKlfflH what prompt men to build, and in point of fact the nfiH&IS building record of the year will show that possibly KSIbiH more houses have been erected in Salt Lake dur- SlHiB ing the past year than all the houses in Boise num- SsHiH ber. He complains of high prices in the stores as BraftiBiB compared with Boise, which we suspect is true as otHBbiIh to apples at least, for Salt Lake absorbs the Idaho SBHIB apDle crop in great measure and the railroad fitPflRH charges for bringing them here. He does not like BIPiBbbB to see drivers of private carriages in livery, and so mE vBH we suspect he would be disgusted were he to go fly&in&H further East His dislike of the mix d society of iiifsflH this city provokes a hope that there are different ssElflBlB grades even In Boise, for what would a whole city BmlrwMI be if peopled by the class to which the editor of sBBBllfll Clipper is attached? Complaining of our. tramps is BhBBbB at least ungrateful, for when they make a twenty- BhihBI dollar speech in soliciting for a dime they almost HBflH invariably claim that they aro just from Idaho. He BHHiiHH declares that in this city they make bologna of flBliiflfll dogs. We hope that knowledge did not cause; hiJM 3EHBH 1 brhMbbbbbbI B "' 111 ' ' HI I to sever family ties and hurry away. But at the HI I i v "close he gives himself away by recommending a HI 1 three-for-a-dimo cigar. That is his justification HI I J , jfor the man who smokes three-for-a-dime cigars is HI I 'I jiable to say anything. |
