Show i Bon Lomond Beacon, May 4, 1978, Page 6 trouble Warriors, lose to tough toy, Errors still fri i' I 11-- 4 By Glen Adams It seems like that on some days, things never go right. That was the case with the Warriors who dropped their seventh game of the season to Roy High last Tuesday on the Royal home field by a score of 11-- 4 Weber had a three game win streak going early last week, lost back to games against league leading Bountiful and the Royals just when things were starting to look up. When you look back at the Weber season so far, the games that the arrior's have won were virtualy error free. Errors have hurt Weber L E E 0 A C H coaDICKEMORE ching third base, didn't give to many hand ( signals to Weber runners in their Roy game, because the Warriors didnt have that many on base all afternoon . s x i 'Yy: jA P fi t : I'M & tA & V 1; f-- r W "V .y vV i . in the games they have lost, but so is the case with any team who commits errors. It would be nice to see the Warriors sweep their remaining games of the season, which wouldnt surprise me a bit, because when this team can put it together, they have no trouble winning. Unfortunately Webers ability to put it together has come but a few times. So desire, determination along with their ability will have to be the factors involved if they are to win their remaining games. In Tuesdays game with the Royals, SteveTrawick pitching for the Warriors was relieved from the mound in the middle of the third inning. Steve, not having one of his better days, gave up five hits, six runs and walked three batters. Roy picked up one run in the first inning on hits by catcher Fred Fernandes and Nate Herzog, the talented second baseman for the Royals. The biggest gun for the Royals, was Kurt Bennington, who got on base four of four times, not to mention his two doubles and a single. Roy was getting every imaginable break, while Weber wasnt getting any as the Royals held the Warriors scoreless for six full innings and it appeared that Weber was going to get shutout. Roy had big scoring innings in the third and fifth, scoring five runs in the third and three in the fifth. The talented Royals scored in every inning and substituted several players who came in the game for starters. Pitching for a shutout, Roys Vernon couldnt quite make the distance as he was blasted out of a complete game by the Warriors in the top of the seventh inning. Vernon who had an excellent game going for him with only two hits going into the seventh inning, gave up two more in the seventh allowing four Weber runs to score before he was relieved by Larry Gwin. Webers seventh inning was their only glory, it was a good showing on the Warriors part, saved them from the shutout, but it was to little to late. Webers four runs came on hits by Scott Call, John Card, Robert Defries and Greg Cook. When the Warriors make up their mind to do something, they usually can do it, but they need to start in the first inning. Weber will travel to Clearfield Friday for a rematch at 4:00 p.m. In their first meeting, Weber way behind, came roaring back to tie the score, but lost the game on a controversial call by the umpire. ROY PITCHER Todd Vernon had a two hitter going for him until Weber got things going in the seventh inning. Vernons shutout hopes got spoiled with Weber scoring four runs in the seventh ' ; y - SCOTT CALL of Weber, looks back at the hit that drove him home for a Warrior score.
