Show Hit Ute Bwllttia Thursday, Jeaiwry SO, 1975 Nominations For Business Committee Posts Now Open; Spring Election Set a Nominations for candidates to serve on the Tribal Business Committee are now being accepted, according to Lester Chapoose, committee chairman. r The terms of Councilmen Homey Secakuku, representing the Uintah Band, Gary Poowegup, Sr. of the Whiteriver Band and Albert Manning of the Uncompahgre Band will expire April 14 creating three committee vacancies. Nominations for the office of councilman must be made in writing and presented on or before Feb. 14 to the .Business Committee or to an Election Board appointed by the committee. Though an election board has not yet been appointed, the council will appoint members in the near future and well before the Feb. 14 nominating deadline, according to Gary Poowegup, Sr., committee vice chairman. In addition to being a member of the Ute Indian Tribe and a member of the band they wish to represent, candidates for the Business Committee positions must be at least 21 years of age and a resident of the reservation for at least one year proceeding the general election. four-yea- Residents submitting nominations, should state the candidate's name, DAVE ALLRED OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION IN SALT LAKE CITY tens guests assembled for the Ute Fab open house Jan. 14 that the Ute Tribe is the epitome of what other tribes might well emulate. As the day continued over 200 area residents toured the recently completed millwork plant. More pictures on page 5. - Gilbert Gardner Named General Manager At Bottle Hollow Resort Gilbert Gardner, assistant manager of Bottle Hollow Resort since 1972, was named general manager of the enterprise, according to a directive last week of the Tribal Business Committee. In the same directive former general manager Jim Peltier was appointed enterprise director of the resort. The management reorganization reflects an attempt to promote tribal members to .positions of full on-goi- authority over Ute operations after sufficient training. to handle management responsibilities of the Resort, Mr. Gardner has worked in all areas of Bottle Hollow since the enterprise opened in Well-equipp- 1971. On completion of the Manpower Development Training Administration (MDTA) program held at that time, Mr. Gardner assumed the duties of desk clerk. He has since worked in the Arts an and Crafts Shop, in the restaurant, as Resort purchasing agent and most recently as assistant general manager under Mr. Peltier. In his new post, Mr. Gardner will direct the operation of the restaurant, motel, and arts and crafts shop and of new resort facilities as they are completed. In addition to serving as consultant to the new general manager when so requested, Mr. Peltier will oversee the completion of the Resort's Phase II operation, the Bottle Hollow Campground; and Phase IH, which is the addition of 80 motel units and a convention center. Mr. Peltier will also be responsible for the operation of Florence Creek Lodge which was recently made a part of the Ute resort. address, age, tribal roll number, length of residency on the reservation and designate of which band he or she is a member. In the event that more than two persons are nominated for an office, a primary election will be held March 14 to determine which two candidates will be listed on the general election ballot. If a primary election is unnecessary, the general election will be held March 14. how-ever- y, Ute Boxer Wins Utah Junior Title For the second year in a row, Eddie Martinez has fought his way to the Utah State Junior Olympic Boxing Championship and for the second time has defeated Andy Suazo in the finals. The 1975 Utah State junior Olympic boxing tournament came to a dose Saturday night at the Multi Purpose Building at Ft. Duchesne and after two nights of action packed bout's Eddie Martinez and five of his team mates made state championship. Lt. Tapoof, who received a promotion from the rank of sergeant with the administrative change, succeeds Kenneth Pickup. Lt. Pickup has been named supervisor of the Department's Patrol Division. Lt. Tapoof is a graduate of the Tucson Police Academy in Arizona. He and his wife live in Whiterocks with their five children. 15-ye- ar Employees Cited For Outstanding Service emOver one hundred Tribal-BIployees and their partners celebrated the Christmas season at the Tribes annual dinner dance held Dec. 23 at the building in Fort Duchesne. Highlights of the evening included an awards ceremony, a buffet dinner catered by the Rex LaRose family and after dinner dancing to music by the Reary Band. Homey Secakuku served as master of ceremonies for the affair. , The postponement of the scheduled entertainment by Paul Ortega went almost unnoticed as local singers Annette Christensen and Jack Christensen graciously stepped in to provide dinner music. Assisted by Mr. Secakuku, Administrative Officer Irene Cuch presented length of service awards and certificates for outstanding service to 54 tribal employees. Cited for outstanding service to the Ute Tribe were J.
