Gov. Palin stumbled through interviews with the media prior to the debate, making it difficult even for her most ardent supporters to remain in defense of Sen. McCain's selection. In the debate, Gov. Palin avoided embarrassment, but the bar was set so low against her expectation wise, that she surprised many with her lack of gaffes and stumbling over questions. One thing is for sure - she sounded more confident. On the flip side, she side-stepped questions, even to the point of letting the moderator know that she would not answer the questions according to the debate rules. In what may be the "tear that won the election," Sen. Biden choked up in one of his responses; Gov. Palin offered an unsympathetic reply to Biden's emotion. For those keeping track, Gov. Palin said the word "maverick" five times, and Sen. Biden said the term "middle-class" twelve times. Overall, the VP debate was anti-climactic, though the television audience of viewers was larger than the presidential debate. Gov. Palin needed the debate to catapult her out of the media scrutiny, and. in this endeavor, she fell a few cans short of a Joe six-pack. Political paradigm shift doing her usual ritual of teaching, or so I thought.
