Show .1 r Dugway Proving Ground, Friday, Nov. 4, 1966 Joint Meeting At DPG Chapel . ft o On October 19, a Joint meeting of the Protestant and Catholic Womens Chibs of Dugway was held at the Post Chapel. This was the first time these two groups have met under these circumstances. Ordinarily, the groups convene separately each week in study groups at the Post Chapel The joint meeting was held to bring the two groups together in a closer working understanding. Chaplain Glenn D. Lauby attended the meeting and commented, I am sure that by sharing a common interest these two groups will better benefit the Dugway community. I hope that meetings of this type will continue in the future. The president of the Protestant Women's Club is Mrs. Wallace Luther. Mrs. Brady Earlewine is the President of the Catholic Womens Chib. The hostesses for the meeting were Mrs. Alvin Pucek and Mrs. John Schrier. Between November 6 and 12. American Education Week will be observed by the Army. In the United States, Army units plan to .cooperate with civilian educators in this observance through exhibits and special programs at Army Education Centers with invitations to the civilian and military communities. One of the educational oppor-- . tunities available to soldiers today is the General Educational Development (GED) Program, which allows them to raise their educational level while on active duty and, at the same time, prepares them to perform their military duties more effectively. This can be done through academic, vocational technical and scientific courses at the elementary school high school, undergraduate and graduate college levels. Instruction is available at Army Edust cation Centers or through the facilities of accredited civilian schools and other educational institutions. At Army Education Centers the focal point for GED services soldiers are offered free professional assistance which includes testing, counselling, registration and instruction in their educational development. GED Program statistics are impressive. Nearly 250,000 in the Continental United States have earned high school diplomas or certificates through the program in the past ten years. Army personnel have completed more than academic courses, primarily at the college level. The Armys GED Program is based on the philosophy that an individual can improve himseli through learning and that the g process of learning is a one. In war and peace the individual soldier must be prepared to perform his assigned duties in the most efficient manner possible the Armys General Educational Development Program is designed to help him achieve this goal.
