Jim Hansen of Utah's second congressional district, spoke to a political science and sociology class about subjects such as internship programs and the national budget Tuesday. Hansen spent most of his time promoting the three-montinternship program available to college students through his h office. Services (domestic expenses such as social security and welfare) has the largest budget with $293 billion, followed by National Defense with a $221 billion budget. Hansen said that the third largest budget is that of the national debt, which he said by 1990 will surpass both domestic and defense budgets. I am a strong believer in defense, Hansen said. He said he is a conservative Republican from Farmington, Ut, who believes in President Reagans philosophy of things. Reagan is one of the finest men Ive ever met. He doesnt want too much cut out of the defense budget, but he believes there should be some cuts in all programs. Hansen spoke of the Gramm-Rudmamandate which will bind Congress to a series of budget cuts each year, until the budget is balanced.
