All four former Thunderbird athletes are scheduled to meet the public during a reception at the home of SUSC President Gerald R. Sherratt. Following the reception they will attend the y of Southern Colorado basketball game at War Memorial Fieldhouse. During halftime, each will be awarded the Rons Sporting Goods MVP plaque. After the game the former MVPs will attend a Thunderbird Athletic Club postgame reception in the lobby of the SUSC Administration Building. We are always pleased to recognize the contribution of former athletes who helped build the Southern Utah State College athletic tradition, Steve Lunt, SUSC athletic director, said. These athletes are well remembered by those who attended this school at that time. Four 1955-5- 6 SUSC-Universit- its good that our current athletic fans are introduced to these former athletes. We are encouraging everyone to come meet them. Vest, in addition to playing football, was a member of the track and baseball teams. Coach Bruce Osbornes team had a record that season. Vest and his wife Barbara are the parents of eight children. Fie is a buyer for an electronics firm. Davis played for Coach Cleo Petty and helped the basketball team to a 3 record as SUSC hosted a regional tournament. Davis is a district manager for a wholesale tire distributor. Fie and his wife, Harriet, reside in Sandy and are the parents of two children. Ware, a good defensive player who led the team to a divisional championship the year after his MVP selection, is director of support services for the Sevier School District. He and his wife, Janice, currently live in Monroe, Utah, and have four children. Benson won several firsts in both the shot put and the discus for Track Coach Bruce Osborne; he was labeled as the record maker in that seasons yearbook. He recently served as SUSC Director of Student Activities. He and Donna, his wife, live in Cedar City and are the parents of five children. We think all-Americ- football team an Juan Henderson, the leading rusher, has been named a 1984 honorable mention football player by the NAIA. Henderson, a senior running back, is one of only eight players to be named to the Division I squad. Juan was a major ingredient in our offense this year, and he did an excellent job for us, said Don Conrad, SUSC football coach. We are all pleased that he has received the honor he deserves. All a person has to do is look at the statistics, and its obvious how important Henderson was to our success, added Conrad. Henderson, who was the most potent offensive weapon, scored 24 points to lead SUSC to a season. In addition to rushing for an average of 83.6 yards last season, Henderson caught 14 passes which was the second highest on the squad. Even the statistics dont tell everything, says Conrad, Time after time we would go to Juan when we needed crucial yardage, and time after time he would pick up the yards we needed. Well miss him next season. 6 12-1- Henderson was also a leading rusher in as a junior when he led the scoring with five touchdowns. Im interested in professional football, Henderson says. There are some teams looking at me, including Dallas and Denver from the NFL.
