In fact, they have one of those signs hanging above examples of just such frugality: one of those signs saying "Your child will deserve the break he'll get." At the Kindersport, among miniature winter snow equipment equip-ment radiating the same quality we see on adult backs and feet, we spoke with proprietor Priscilla Willard about the sport of skiing amongst the pre-drinking age group. ' "Children's skis need to be soft," she told us explaining that on cheap wooden stiffies most children don't have the ample poundage to allow the ski to glide flat on the snow. That precisely, coupled perhaps with last year's snowfall, explains the Kindersport's over the summer growth namely their expansion into Portland, Port-land, which opened September Septem-ber 17, and Aspen. Two more practices underlining under-lining Kindersport attention to safety and success have been buy-back and binding . check programs. Both will be retained this year. If no little brother or sister exists to accept hand-me-downs, the Kindersport buys back outgrown skis and boots. For non-abused skis they normally pay one third the original price, and for boots a buy-back price is quoted the day of purchase. And, for all equipment bought from Kindersport, the shop offers a free annual binding release check. So, if you plan to put the kid on the slopes this year, and if you want the kid to want to go back up next year fearless again, it'd be wise to drop by the Kindersport before the "I told you so" index finger gets to work. Send the kid up there safe. Toaetars Gti Classroom teachers with a bachelor's degree in Park City School District received a salary schedule increase averaging $598 or 6.5 percent this year. In addition to this general raise, most teachers not at the top bracket of the salary scale also received an experience increment averaging $380. Thus the total salary, increase in-crease for teachers District who have not reached reach-ed the top step in the salary schedule amounted to $978 this year. These were some of the facts brought out in an analysis of teacher salaries prepared by Utah Foundation Founda-tion the private research organization, and are based on the 76-7? salary schedules submitted to the State Board of Education by local school districts. Added amounts are paid to teachers with additional academic training. The maximum salary for a teacher with a "master's degree this year, for example, is $14,298 , which is 66 percent more than is paid to a beginning teacher with only a bachelor's degree. The report notes that these amounts are for approximately nine months of service during the school year. Foundation analysts observe that over the past five years salary schedules for bachelor-degree teachers in Utah have been raised by $2,990 in Park City School District. The state also began paying the teacher's share of employee retirement costs in 1972, which currently adds another $520 hmk " tarn SPECIAL UMk Mini, , ' During that 20 year period, Mountain Fuel has increased in-creased your gas bill 47.6, about $2.15 each year for the typical residential customer, to help defray our own increased costs-for the hundreds of expenses that cost us more today. In addition teachers who had not reached the top step in the salary schedule have received annual experience increments totaling $1,234 over the five-year period. Thus, according to the" Foundation report, a teacher who began a teaching career in the Park City School District in 1971 with a beginning salary of $5,169 has received total salary increses amounting to $1,744 or 76.9 percent, over the past five years. In addition if the teacher who began teaching five years ago had acquired added academic training, the -salary boost during the five-year period might be even greater. Ten years ago the average salary for classroom teachers in Utah was about 5percent below the average of the eight Mountain States. According to estimates made by the National Education Association, the average salary in Utah during the 197576 school year was only ' about 2.8 percent below the Mountain States average. Moreover, as noted, the state pays most of the employees share of retirement costs in Utah, a benefit not generally available avail-able in other states.
