Many are not enthused with it. We are answering peoples desires and needs in shopping, he added. Warshaw said rather than economizing and offering less service, the philosophy behind the new store is to offer more service and make the shopping experience less monotonous. He said success will depend on the people involved, the location, the experience of. management and the stores ability to meet the consumers needs. People managing the departments come from varied backgrounds, Warshaw said, adding there are 33 different department managers. Each person will be responsible for buying, hiring, training and selling and advertising for his or her own depart- ment, Warshaw said. Common costs will be charged to each department by space or business volume. The departments will be as diverse as the city itself. From plants to meat to clothing to skis, the store will offer variety as few cities have ever seen under one ropf.
