Show APRIL 14, 1995 PAGE 6 United Way - - » The Milford Area United Way does a lot of good things for the community. Incorporated in 1982, the bulk of their support comes _ + from Union Pacific Railroad employees payroll deductions and the ~ Union Pacific Foundation. Only 1% of gross receipts is sent to the . hational organization; the remainder stays right here in the community. Community benefits over the years include $20,000. for the swimming pool; donations for playground equipment at the elementary school and park; help for youth organizations like 4-H, Close-Up Club, Boy Scouts (2 Milford troops and 1 Minersville); girl’s state; ball parks; senior citizens; youth recreation; Babe Ruth League; Cancer, Heart, march of Dimes, MS, and Primary Children’s funds. Veda Cox is President; Clark Dalton. vice-president and fund drive executive; Karen Thomas, secretary; Sheila Brinkman, treasurer. Other board members are Ruth Smith, Bill Wagner, Dr. Spaulding and Joan Long. Thanks for all that you do! ¢ Mayor Mary Wiseman, who is also a P.A. at Milford Valley Hospital, receives a $3,500. check from Sheila Brinkman, Milford Area United Way Secretary. Reha Gray and John Gledhill complete the picture. The United Methodist Women also donated $400. These donations were used toward the purchase of a new gurney, demonstrated at right by Gledhill, hospital administrator. The new gurney has all of the latest features for patient comfort and staff efficiency. The design allows various foot and head tilts as well as easy access safety rails. X-Rays can also be taken on the gurney, eliminating an extra move for the patient. This new piece of equipment is in sharp contrast to memories of the “old” hospital as related by Jackie Williams and Dr. Symond. Halls and doorways were so narrow that it was impossible to effectively negotiate a gurney. Dr. Symond recalls carrying patients to their rooms after surgery. The surgery room itself was so small that doctors and nurses had to crawl under the surgery table after scrubbing, with hands in the air, to get in position to work. Track Update by Jason Fisher Coach Hillock feels that the track team is doing very well this season. He also feels that they have hit their peak. His primary goal with the team is to do well and place as many kids as possible in the next four meets which are the Milford Invitational, BYU Invitational, Region, and State. He also says that the Milford Invitational will be a big meet and very important for the team. But a lot of help is needed for this track meet. He needs people to run the field events and take times in the running events. He also needs help putting together the Region Track meet, which will be held in Milford on Saturday, May 6, 1995. If you are interested in helping with either the Milford. Invitational or Region or both, give Coach Hillock a call at 387-2419, ASAP. A few strong points for the team this year are the number of hurdlers and distance runners. He also feels that throwing discus are the team. the boys who are the shotput and doing very well for The only weakness - the team has is the lack of numbers. “Some schools come in here with 30 on each team and sweep every event, and were just trying to get by with 15 boys and 15 girls,” Coach Hillock. And _ congratulations to Chalys Lamb for taking first in the Javelin at the ’ Cedar High Invitational. ts sige \ Bogus FCC Agents Attempt to Steal Calling Card Numbers consumers with supposed badge numbers and telephone numbers Unsuspecting persons are for the agent’s supervisor to verify the investigation is legitimate, Beadle said. being victimized by unscrupulous individuals posing as agents for the ' Federal Communications Commission (FCC), reports the Better Business Bureau.
