Show Opinions The Gunnison Valley Gazette Page 2 Club News By HARRIET : BAUMGARTNER You asked for it, here it is! Harriet's Club News - her first article. Originally ran in the Gunnison Valley Gazette on April 28, 2005. \ The ladies of the club are so excited to have our local paper back again! It's been a long time since the club voted to pay out dues for a subscription to a local paper, as a matter of fact, our club minutes show it was in 1959 and the check was endorsed by Wes Cherry. But the motion was made and earned with only one dissenting vote (Clara) and so we are now subscribing full time. Clara would have voted yes but she said it's not democratic to have anything go unchallenged. She remembers how the vote to declare war on Japan in ( 41 had one negative vote in the senate. We don't agree with her thinking, she can be so stubborn, (that's what caused her first husband to leave her) but she's getting along in years and we never but since she put on weight, know from week to week if it's just too hard to shower she'll be around for the next in that little trailer they live in. Thursday, July 13, 2006 Change Living the Outdoor Lifestyle By C R A I G PAYNE ourtesy Photo I don't know about anyone else, but for me change is difficult. I believe most of us are set in a routine that we seldom deviate from. From time to time I make a conscious effort to change habits of mine that have me in a rut. It may be as simple as turning off the highway one street sooner, while headed home after work. Why I even think these silly thoughts is a mystery to me, but I do. One change that has been slowly taking place in my life is hunting and or recreating on a t v's. More specifically, four wheelers. I know that for most of you, enjoying four wheelers has been a part of your outdoor experience for quite some time now. I, on the other hand have shunned the noisy things. Opting instead for a trail less traveled than the typical a t v pathway. I typically travel mountainous terrain atop my sure If you have ever played in Little League, or coached Little League, or had a son play Little League, or even if you just want to read a wholesome, family oriented book, -then get "Heat" by Mike Lupica. This is a new book in the Gunnison Civic Library. It is geared to any age group wheather the reader has had any experience either paying baseball or watching a baseball game. Michael is twelve years of age, lives in the Bronx where he gets a full view of Yankee Stadium. He seems to live and breathe baseball and fortunately his dad does too. Dad teaches Mike how to improve his pitching, stresses the need Myself and a Honda Pack Mule. of the most picturesque trails the west has to offer. Many of which I am sure you have ridden as well. Trails that offer panoramic views of awe-inspiring vistas. Although we have enjoyed ourselves immensely, mostly we have used four wheelers as pack mules. They have made our burden's lighter and for that we are grateful. We have almost made the decision to purchase a four wheeler of our own. What follows is the long drawn out process of deciding what particular brand is best for us. After that we must decide on the size. Then there is the not so simple matter of attachments. I am not so sure the decisions ever end. On second thought, maybe I'm not ready for change just yet. I'll keep you posted. footed horse. Or from time to time I traverse more inhospitable terrain on foot. But lately I have found myself asking a t v owners of the merit'their particular brand of four wheeler has to offer. I am finding that people have varying opinions concerning their a t v's. Some opinions seem to make sense to me while others do not. Sort of like why one person drives a Chevy and another drives a Ford. Neither can explain why they prefer one particular brand over another. They just do. In the not too distant past Kerri and I have had some very positive and pleasant experience's aboard borrowed four wheelers. I must admit, albeit reluctantly, that we have enjoyed ourselves for the most part. We've pursued mountain lion's, bears, elk and deer. We have rode some Library Corner of continuous practice, how to get along with the other players, especially the catcher. The family is composed of Michael, his older brother Carols and the dad. The mother had passed away, so the three of them were closely knit. That is, until the dad suddenly dies, leaving the two young boys, who are now being checked on by the Division of Child Services. How that works out is why you can't put this book down until you know. This is an excellent family book! It shows the importance of trust, friends.and sheer determination for success. The reader soon finds himself in the hearts and minds of the characters. Happy reading!
