Doctors in the Knickerbocker hospital in New York City , work desperately against time over Michael Woods, C8, a pernicious anemia sufferer, after he was bludgeoned in an attempted mercy slaying. New York police say that his brother, Charles, 68, attempted to kill Michael to save him further suffering. Charles then committed suicide, dying in a leap from a third floor apartment at 211 West 107th street. He apparently never knew that his attempt to kill his brother was unsuccessful, probably thinking Michael dead when he took his own life.
