Tennis began in the eighth b.ade and was coached by former Olympic champion, Terry McCann. Into high school Tennis went through a very pivotal time. In his own words. Tennis said, I was doing some things 1 shouldnt have been doing but wrestling gave me a better way out. Before those high school days were over. Tennis ended up winning the state titles his junior and senior years in Oklahoma. During his junior year he had to lose 20 pounds to make the weight he eventually won the state title in. TENNIS later wound up at the University of Utah under the reign of Marv Hess. Hess had talked to the Oklahoma State coach when Tennis was graduating and actually offered the senior a scholarship without even seeing him. As a freshman Utc he went 2 and then went through two good years as a sophomore and junior. During his senior year he posted a 25-- 2 record. AFTER wrestling with the U he boxed Golden Gloves for a year and soon after joined the LDS Church. Tennis first got into the coaching ranks at Viewmont High and then was offered the head job at Clearfield. But prior to taking the Clearfield job, he accepted a call from misthe church to serve a two-yesion. Upon his return he got right back into coaching as the head man at Clearfield High. ar HES BEEN with the Falcons ever since. To begin with the Hansen story, Tennis made the comment, "Mike is a super coach because hes a fighter. Hes one of the greatest bewrestling coaches in the state cause hes a fighter. HANSENS words about Ten nis were mutual. Look how around. When he first got there it wasnt doing that hot but he got in and shaped it up quickly. I was talking to Coach (Marv) Hess the other day and he was telling me how Scott has committed himself to get Clearfields program to where its respectable. Hes done way. In a P.E. class the instructor decided to have the class get together and participate in a wrestling tournament. Mike came out the winner and thus a new career got started. THROUGH eighth and ninth Hansen only got better and through his years at Teton High he never wrestled a match as a sophomore because he wrestled behind a state champion. But he moved to excellence his junior and senior years as he won the state titles both years. He was talked out of a trade tech school offer after high school to attend Ricks College where he was given a certain amount of scholarship money in accordance to how many matches he won. His loves for the sport grew that year as he made it all the way to the junior nationals. BUT THEN attended to a two year mission. After his mission he called the BYU coach and was offered a limited scholarship. After a red shirt year he had three great seasons compiling a record of 75 wins and just 12 losses. At Ricks he was 30-- 3 so over the four college years he piled up over 100 victories. HIS SENIOR season at BYU he finished fourth in the nation. Later it was on to Layton High where Hansen has led the Lancers to high finishes in state including two second places, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, eighth and sixteenth. pre-seas- THE DARTS played much better defense against the Royals and despite the fact Eric Jorgensen scored more than Gardner and his players would have liked, they did succeed in holding down Mark Against Roy Royals it.
