Show 444-444444"f- 4 : WYOMING .j 4444444444444 4 4 4 Bishop Linehan Is Mentioned for the Archbishopric of Dubuque. Cheyenne, Wyo., April 7. The Right Rev. Thomas M. Linehan was consecrated conse-crated bishop of Cheyenne in the sanctuary sanc-tuary of St. Raphael's cathedral, Dubuque, Du-buque, in which, during his boyhood, he had served as an acolyte. He was prepared for the prie-sthood at St. Thomas' seminary, Bard&town, Ky.; at Cape Girardeau, Mo., and at St. Francis' Fran-cis' seminary. Milwaukee, and was the first priest ordained by the late Archbishop Arch-bishop Hennessey. The ordination was celebrated at the Dubuque cathedral in lSt7. Father Linehan was sent to De-corah. De-corah. Ia., and there in his first mission mis-sion displayed the force, ambition and energy for which he subsequently became be-came distinguished among the priests of the archdiocese. In 1870 he was translated to the Church of Corpus Christi, Fort Dodge. There he remained remain-ed for twenty-seven years, or until his consecration as bishop of Cheyenne. The church meanw-hile became one of the strongest in Iowa, and it was in recognition of his work in this mission that he was elevated to the purple. He selected the cathedral at Dubuque as the "rccne of the consecration in order that the ceremony 'mierht be performed by the archbishop who had ordained him. Bishop Linehan established himself him-self at Cheyenne April 1, 1897. The diocese dio-cese has prospered under his administration, adminis-tration, but the climate does not agree with him. He is understood to be the candidate of the suffragan bishops of this province for the archbishopric of Dubuque or bishop of the proposed new diocese of Sioux City. |
