However, L. F. Pett, General Manager, said investigations are now under way for the establishment of another Observation Point at a different location which will be opened next next spring. Mining operations in the vicin-t-y of the present Observation Point have been deferred this year in consideration of the many thousands of people who visit the mine, one of the worlds great scenic attractions. But it was inevitable that the Point would some day become the victim of progress, officials explained. Pit operations have now reached the stage where work must be performed throughout he area where the Observation Point is situated, said Mr. Pett. It is estimated that almost a million and a half tourists and Unlisted Uranium local residents have viewed the spectacular mining operation from the present Observation Point since it was placed in service some 15 years ago. Qaetstlens ss of October 4, 1956 1 During that time, the company stationed an official guide at the Point to explain the operation to visitors and answer their questions. The present Point is located at the upper end of the vehicular tunnel at Copperfield. In advising the public that there will be no facilities for visitors to view the mine after October 8 and during the remaining fall and winter months, Mr. Pett said: We know there will be many people who will want to visit the mine during this time. We regret not being able to have them do so. We hope they will not be too disappointd and will visit us again when facilities are prepared for them. All local tourist agencies and other public organizations have been notified of the closing date. Signs and posters informing visitors and others will be placed in appropriate places, officials said.
