Veteran Affairs Office extends assistance to returning Vets' Efforts by Weber State's Office of Veterans Affairs are being extended to assist the veterans in making a smooth transition from military service to college life. The office assists veterans in enrolling at WSC, applying for their educational benefits, and contacting the Veteran Administration when benefit payments are delayed. They also Several other students join army cadets in rappelling During the Nov. 15 ROTC rappelling class several non-ROTC students joined the army cadets in rappelling from the west side of the football stadium. Rappelling, a means of descending from a cliff or a building, is a regular class in the Weber State ROTC program. Designed to instill confidence in the cadets toward themselves and their equipment, the class is claimed as one reason for the superiority of Weber State cadets at their summer camp at Fort Lewis, Washington. Although only a few people came to watch the demonstration three students found that they wanted to do it themselves. Marion Lott, a freshman living in Promontory Tower, particularly enjoyed his try at rappelling. Although he had only planned on watching he readily accepted an ROTC cadre officer's invitation to try it. Along with the above service offered, the office is open full-time to counsel veterans as to registration procedures, availability of financial aids and G . I . Educa tional Benefits . When asked why he did not wish to do so, Matlack replied that it was too cold to go jumping off 65-foot-high football stadiums. The opinions of the cadets themselves were numerous. A few admitted feeling nervous while others claimed to be looking forward to it. One cadet said that while rappelling did not really bother him, he would rather be doing something else. The cadet did agree with the rest of the ROTC that the rappelling class was the best and most exciting class in the'ROTC program. . gives specialized help in registration to all veterans, especially those who are beginning their first year at Weber State College. A counseling service is also provided for veterans to assist them in choosing a career goal and in selecting courses that are consistent with that goal. All necessary counseling services are available by contacting the college's Counseling Center. The Office of Veterans Affairs encourage all veterans to come to the office if they encounter any problems while attending WSC. It. is located in Room 212 of the Student Services Building.
