It all started in the school year 1939-194-0 our to was rock campus by a group of laboriously lugged pound six men and “boys”— all freshmen at that time They first painted it green with a white ’41' This color combination seemed to be too much for the sophomores so they changed it to red with a white '40 Since that time it has been the center of many and varied controversies At one time it even caused the students of the high school and the college to stop speaking (Up until two years ago Carbon Peter Myer College and Carbon High School were held together here on the College Campus) During the 50’s the position of the rock has been is insecure since many student councils threatened its removal This year the IK'S gave Gibby a face lifting They scraped off the old paint and brought her back to her old shape None of us can say just when during her stay on the College campus that Gibby ceased to be a rock and became a tradition of our school to be reBy spected as such This old rock which was named after the Rock of Gibraltar has been a symbol of strength and unity and stood as a valiant Peter Myer teacher at Carbon guard at our front doors College has been chosen teacher CC of the month Mr Myer was bom Dave Darboni Iranian student from Teheran is top speller In an on Long Island New York City American English class of 25 This is an accomplishment for a student in 1934 When he was five years who is competing with native Americans who have spoken English for old his parents moved to New 19 years or more Jersey where he was graduated Davy who has been in the United States for only one year is from high school In a class of on his way toward becoming an outstanding student American well 250 students he was graduated could well take a lesson from Davy students second highest salutatorian CC He was graduated from BrigCharles Peterson’s own mother would probably be surprised ham Young University in 1946 the following winter he taught to see her son with that most delightful substance — human hair junior high school art in New But the other day Mr Peterson sauntered down the halls with a Jersey By this time he had met nicer head of hair than any old bull moose before molting season and married his charming wife Was it his? There’s plenty of “jam” there Last year the college arranged to have the parking lot black-toppe- d This year our goal should be to have it marked off with bright bright yellow lines and little pink arrows to indicate direction and parking space for each car Rational? Well maybe this is a little extreme but apparently we have a few irrational drivers who really “go to the limits” Some figure they have to park within three inches of the next car or they waste room or fail to impress friends Not only does this cause dented fenders scratched doors wretched nerves tight squeezes but it provides a chance for a nice little visit with the judges if the case is serious enough Besides how is a person supposed to get in or out of his car? Then there's the driver who pulls up with a screeching halt directly behind another car and latches onto the other fellow’s bumsmash-hittin- g per Or the driver whose brakes fail to bring an stop and continues on through the parking lot until another vehicle gets in his way Hie opposite extremes could be — the nice safe driver who creeps up slowly to a smooth gently stop six or seven feet from any other car on the lot This is the fellow who is looking out for his own big “Cad” and forgets about the poor fellow who can’t squeeze in his spacious old Chrysler! Fellowship and good sense are needed on the parking lot Perhaps some should take another driver’s test Let’s see if we can do something about getting the lanes painted on the parking lot Don't be afraid to voice your opinions: others have but not enough Write to this paper See your teachers Really talk it up WE NEED THEM FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR DRIVERS And too remember students there’s plenty of room in the parkfor everyone — there’s no need of “borrowing” the teachers’ lot ing parking lot in front of the Industrial Arts building We have a large faculty and though they don't have the largest cars on the campus they still need their share of parking space! This area has been reserved for them let them use it! all-st- ar Carbon Pays Tribute Members of Carbon College faculty and studentbody were deeply grieved to hear of the death last week of Ardeene Clyde Biddle superintendent of maintenance for many years at Carbon College Mr Biddle was held in high esteem by faculty and students alike He was bom November 2 1892 at Springville Utah to Joseph Henry and Julia Clyde Biddle He married Della L Barton October 12 1912 in the Salt Lake Temple Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints She died in 1920 He married Mary Florence Mathis June 22 1927 He was a Price resident for more than 30 years and a member of the Price Fire Department since 1936 Funeral services were held last Saturday at the Tabernacle The faculty and students desire to extend deepest sympathy to his widow and family College Students — wet-back- — ms Letters to the Editor wasn’t me Honest" Arlene Erickson longer sheets Connie rt a passing grade in Biology Loretta Sunter a new list of excuses Karleen Balle a medical Christmas book on Childhood diseases FlorWilma Alger the record "It ence Olsen a date book Dorothy Robb a new scrubbing brush Katherine Berry a ride home on EASTERN UTAH weekends Irene Takahashl a Sarah Myyearbook subscription ELECTRIC er a snow plow Frances Urbank a late key Karen Staker a ‘38 Yean in Price" parking permit Vickie Cox ear 9-- 11 WMain-M- E plugs Shirlee McArthur a cookbook LaRue McElprang a referee’s shirt Delores Grange a ball and chain Susan Worthen sleepEMMA’S ing pills Verda Price a late-lat-e key Virginia Fullmer weekend Dear Editor: We are sending our letter early to avoid a rush Please bring our dorm girls the following gifts for 7-37- 10! 403 South Caibon Phone ME 7-24- 72 MABBUTTS 404 South Caibon Phone ME 7-37- 66 Me-Cou- posses Thank you St Nicholas and all we ask for us is just a nice quiet Christmas holiday Sincerely yours Mr and Mrs Ted Jensen Dear Editor: We would like to bring up a complaint that has been on our minds for some time Many of the teachers around school have been Krayne Motor (Co i 7-31- 30 y' i f i |
