Show WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2012 THE SIGNPOST WWW.WSUSIGNPOST.COM 10 YEARS OF LEADERSHIP TO END President Milliner: "I have no personal accomplishments. I truly believe everything we do, we do together." By Cozette Jenkins editor-in-chief I The Signpost After a decade as president of Weber State University, a place she has come to refer to as "home" during her 30 years here, F. Ann Millner is preparing to pass the baton. During an interview, Millner said the presidential change will be a smooth transition because President Charles Wight wants to do what's best for the institution. ^ "That's the mindset that has guided me through the day-to-day and through tough decisions," Millner said. Even though the tough decisions and day- to-day activities of a university president can bring on a chaotic and stressful schedule, Millner said she has loved her time at WSU because of how cooperative the campus community is. "You'll see people from all across the campus - students, faculty and staff -work together in all kinds of ways, and that's special," she said. "It's a real sense of community here. People that want to do what's best for Weber State University and our students are here, and if everybody can stay focused on that, then we can make these exceptional learning experiences and keep this incredible university culture." Millner said the supportive spirit at WSU shone through when many of her colleagues encouraged her to apply for the president position 10 years ago. "I wasn't sure, but then I decided to go for it," she said. "At the time, the Board of Regents hadn't hired an internal candidate in 20 years in any of the higher education systems in Utah, and they had never hired a female candidate. It was a long shot, and no one was more surprised than me." She said she is happy she gets to end her presidency by celebrating commencement. "We want Weber State to be worthy of students' dreams, and graduation is the culmination of those dreams," she said. "For me, it's a special time, because that's why we're here." |
