Show THE CALIFORNIA. P10M.tR ASSOCIATION. Ir. another column is given, an account of the visit to our city of the members of the California Pioneer Pio-neer Association of Xcw Kngland. With every old substantial citizen of Utah wo unite in bidding them a cordial welcome to our city, with whoso appearance the visitors arc delighted. Our greeting is tho more warm because the guests aro people of no ordinary calibre, being the material of which empire founders ire composed, com-posed, they having been, in bygone days, engaged in that important labor on tho Pacific Coast. They, together w 1th their cotemiioraricB In early times, laid the foundation of California, subsequently built upon by others, until the Golden State his become one of the most important in the Union. Most of the members of the association associ-ation are wealthy and influential. This is a mattcrof course, as the pioneers pio-neers of n vast country are characterized charac-terized by Uie push and energy before be-fore w hich ordinary oletacles to success suc-cess melt like barriers of snow under tho rays of the sun. Such men and women naturally earve their way until they reach any objective point upon which their minds aro fixed. Between our visitors and many of the older citizens of Utah, there is necessarily a more than ordinary bond of sympathy. The former, like them, have been the pioneers of civilization civi-lization In the Great West, and perhaps per-haps under circumstances naturally much more forbidding thau those encountered in the early development develop-ment of Uie Pacific coast. AVe wish tho men and women who helped to found the Golden State a pleasant sojourn while they remain In Salt Lako City, and a safe journey to their laetcrn homes. |
