Show 1 ' SA1 ilirli.sV bank robber foiled Would-b- e Shortly after 11 a.m. Monday, accident hit-and-r- a man entered a local bank in an on the southbound freeway near the Point of the Mountain, where he sideswiped another vehicle. The victim apparently called the Utah Highway Patrol on his cellular phone and followed the man off the freeway at Main Street to a nearby business. An officer met the man at the fast food establishment, and while he was speaking to the victim of the hit and run, the suspect was in the lane of the business exacting a meal from the employee by saying he had a gun and had already attempt to rob it. The teller asked him to wait while she finished her previous transaction, then looked up to see the man holding a note indicating that he had a gun and wanted money. Taken aback, the teller hesitated, which in turn spooked the man, who quickly" exited the building; the teller followed the unknown suspect out of the bank to obtain a description of the get- drive-throug- away vehicle. Another man's vainglorious burglary actually started as a held up two other businesses earlier in the day. When the UHP trooper attempted to question the alleged suspect, the Salt Lake County man took off in the vehicle and led the UHP officer on a high speed chase; vehicles attained speeds as high as 110 miles per hour, despite the congested condition of the freeway.
