I had a ‘99 version of the program and we all know how old that is in the computer world—I was trying to download a 2003 update of this particular program. I thought it would be easy enough. WRONG! I couldn’t get it to download. Of course that was after I paid $29.95 for it. I would get the prompt; “This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.” And then I was bumped off the internet. Finally, after six trys (I’m’really pretty persistent), I decided I needed to do something more than I was doing. I thought I was pretty computer savvy so I decided to get on-line for support, but I guess I’m more illiterate than I thought. At one point during this process, I thought I finally found some help only to find out I needed to register for the on-line help. So I thought, “OK I’ll register.” But then they wouldn’t accept my password. I don’t know why. They asked for six letters or numbers, yet they said they didn’t match. I made sure they were exactly alike over and over again, but the prompt still came up. By then I was livid. This is when I decided to call customer service—you know what that means—cauliflower ear! When I finally talked to a live person after listening to the computerized answering messages that took me everywhere but where I wanted to go, I thought, “Finally, now I can get some help.” WRONG! I would just think I finally had the right person (the one that could help me) when they would tell me I needed a $359,000 A home to let your hair down. Beautiful views everywhere. 2.92 acres Joan 675-0444 different support department. After I came full circle, the person on the other end of the phone suggested, “Why don’t you just go buy a copy of the program instead of downloading it.” Great Idea! Why hadn’t I thought of that? But now after all my wasted time—and I do mean WASTED—I thought I deserved to be told how to download it. But NO! I needed to take more time and travel downtown to buy the program. Yes, the so-called helpers on the phone were all so friendly. And after they tell you that they can’t help you, but that they will transfer you to someone else who can, they ask, “Is there anything else I can help you with?” After the fifth person saying this, I was ready to shout, “You didn’t help me with anything in the first place . . . what do you mean ‘can you help me with anything else?’” I’m sure my blood pressure was rising. Now, after 3:00 a.m. two days later, I still haven’t accomplished my upgrade. I spent $60 more knowing that this would solve all my problems, but now my computer is telling me that the site I needed is not available. My purpose in all this was to pay my bills, but the bill pay site is not available tonight. I no longer care! My bills will just have to be late. We all know what the problem is—I need to take more computer classes, then I can learn more so I can buy more programs, which will give me more opportunity to have something go wrong, so I can do this all over and over again! And don’t you love it when they say, “The problem is, you just need to upgrade your computer.” After all is said and done, perhaps I really just need to upgrade my brain and my patience! It’s upgrade mania and I don’t want to deal with it so I think I will just go to bed. If this article makes no sense . . . remember, it is now 4:00 a.m., and I have to get up tomorrow and try this all over again. CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
