The latest, but probably not the last football coach to try that little trick is Springville Red Devil coach Mike Jacobsen afternoon Coach Monday Jacobsen was asked about his team's strength for the 1973 Region Six grid season. "Well," he chuckled, "we really don't have any strengths this season." Despite Coach Jacobscn's claim, most Region Six coaches have mentioned the Red Devils as one of the stronger grid teams in the area. Springville has an unusual opportunity this grid season to match its strength with an opponent. On September 1st the Red Devils travel to Ias Vegas to battle Rancho High School. The team members are raising money to pay their own expenses for the trip to the Nevada city. The offensive and defensive line will be the anchor to wha' should be a good Springville team. Both Red Devil 195 pound Tony ixrty. a tackle, and Brent Anderson a 175 pound guard should provide the leadership and the talent necessary to give the Red Devils some excellent line play. Good Depth Along with some top lineman Coach Jacobsen, in his eighth year at Springville, also claimed that his team has good depth. The players he indicated that will probably provide the depth are linemen Scott Staiey. Mark Newton and Mike North, plus backfield stalwarts Steve Hunt. Craig Huff and Cory Duncan. The Red Devils lost some real stars off last year's squad w hich finished with a rather dismal record. Graduated are top notch lineman John Hafen. and two backfield stars, halfback Paul Antonino and quarterback Kirk Roberts. Angels Rout Toros game, chuckle pitcher, scattered the 10 hits he gave up. "But we know our problems and we can make some determinations in terms of it in what we might have to do." The Bengals won the game but the Kagles passed for 302 yards and two touchdow ns The Bengals, however, should be strengthened in the defensive secondary this week since free safety Tommy Casanova reported to camp Monday. reported four weeks late because of special courses he had to complete at 1niisiana State as part of his reparation for medical school. "Our quarterbacking was a very encouraging thing." said Brown about the performances of Anderson and Carter. Anderson completed 11 of 12 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. Carter hit four of five for 70 yards and one touchdown in the second half. "The most encouraging part is the way Anderson is staying in there and making decisions." said Brown.
