Hobble Creek Storm opening weekend success! The competitive soccer season opened up this past weekend. They currently have 17 teams competing during the fall seasoa They had great success with 13 teams winning their opening games. The season will continue con-tinue through mid October. The teams really appreciate appre-ciate the community support sup-port of our parents and coaches and families of the players. They also want to extend a huge thank-you to Nebo School District for letting let-ting them use their fields to compete on. SPRINGVILLE HERALD Technically, the members of T Minus 5 perform what is commonly known as a cappella, or vocal music without with-out instrumental accompaniment. But their audience is promised a concert on Sept. 8 that goes way beyond the typical choir or barbershop performance. : v "This is so much more. People will be amazed at what can come out of the human voice," said Jared Allen, a tenor with T Minus 5. . ) v ; - ; -: V The professional five-member group will bring its unique style to Springville for a concert on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 8 p.m. at the Spring Acres Arts Park, 620 S. 1350 East, Springville (just northeast of Springville High School). Tickets are $8 and are available online at www. springville.org or at the gate the night of the show. Organized in 2000, the original members of T Minus 5 met while performing in singing groups at Weber State University in Ogden. The Ogden-based group now performs per-forms 50 to 60 concerts a year and travels frequently around the Intermountain West. In addition to Allen, its members are Jeff Petersen, baritone; bari-tone; Karsten Longhurst, tenor; Shawn Satterthwaite, percussionist; and Jason "Fish" Salmond, bass. Their high-energy performances include a wide range of musical styles, from pop, oldies and doo wop to country. coun-try. Allen said the group takes audiences on a "roller coaster ride," presenting driving rock-and-roll classics with thumping bass and electric guitar sounds - created through their voices - then slowing down to perform a more traditional piece such as "Shenandoah." "We come out with high energy and the crowds just enjoying it and loving it, and in the middle of it we throw in some nice smooth ballads with some smooth harmonies," harmo-nies," Allen said. There's music for all ages in T Minus 5 concert, Allen said. Members bring in quite a bit of humor as well, he said, and a good dose of audience participa- !
