W W. Barton Darton and before Schaar r had made his exit from the office Mr Barton interrogated him The Theoffice office of the sheriff was notified immediately and I Schaar was further questioned before be- be tore fore ore being allowed to leave the building Schaar said he had received the bill Friday or Saturday night from a patron atron for service He said that he had lad given 19 in change as the bill billor for tor or services was 1 ERASURES MADE The raising of the bill was accomplished accomplished accomplished I by the erasure of the number 1 in each corner of th the bill and the printing of 20 in all corners on both oth sides of the bill On the side printed in black ink the same color of if ink had been used for the new numbers On the reverse reverse side the numbers had been printed in green ink to correspond with the rest of the printing on that side I No attempt had been made by the counterfeiter to substitute the number 20 in any of the other places where the number 1 had been printed on I the original bill Number 1 had hadI merely been scratched out in all inI in- in I I stances It was these j I which first attracted the attention of Mrs Taggart when she was preparing to place the money In the cash I.
