The big battle Is to be put on at the Columbia tomorrow evening. "Never felt better in my life," Kallio said. "If I lose Tuesday night it'll be because I have met a better wrestler than I ever went against before. "The time I have spent in Utah Las helped me," Kallio said. "I'm getting used to this high altitude which nearly put me on the toboggan during the first match. When the chief of police called It off I waa struggling for my breath and, couldn't have kept on five minutes more." Kallio has been training with Ketonen In Salt Lake, and the latter will be in the Columbia Tuesday night to help the champion with, advice. Ira Dern, who regained his middleweight ciown last Friday night, will referee the Jones-Kalllmatch. Promoter Harry B. Ash ton has staged two good boxing preliminaries, which start promptly at 8 o'clock, and will give way to the main event of the evening at 8:30. The curtain raiser will be a three-roun- d affair between "Battling" Peterson and "Spade" Leavitt, a couple of youthful scrappers of the calibre. The Provo Athletic club, (league teams) has asked all persons wishing to bid on the right to print and publish the official baseball program to submit such bids Immediately to the board of directors of the club. This action is taken, according to President Timmer-man- , to save advertisers from being importuned for more than one program and to insure the club receiving a portion of the net proceeds. MUG FROM KALLIO TUESDAY SUB-DE- There seems to be no limit to the possibilities latent in Doris May. Each new photoplay in which she appears is more humorous thaa its predecessor. Besides. Miss May never seems to exhaust her supply of comic gestures, for each n"w situation in which she finds herself calsl forth a seemingly original comic response. In her new comedy, "Eden and Return," showing at the Strand and Thursday; Miss Wednesday May portrays a vivacious sub-dewho becomes involved in all man ner of difficulties when her father, a prominent Wall street operator, selections three young men and demands that his daughter marry one of them forthwith. As Betty Baylock, debuante daughter of Robert Bay lock. Miss May brings to the screen a wholly delightful quality of good, clean comedy. There are many strikingly humorous incidents in which the art of Miss May is revealed in all .its youthful freshness. But while the part she interprets so skillfully in "Eden and Return" is a delightfully humorous one, it does not give a true oprtrayal of Miss May herself. Mme. Gabrielle Rejane, the celebrated French actress. Is the featured player. It is said to be the only motion picture for which she acted. She is one of those comparatively rare players who mastered the technique of pantomime. Her performance shows this. One might think from watching her that she had been playing before the camera all her life. She seldom wastes time going through the motions of talking, which are usually without meaning on the screen. Instead, she acts. She uses her body, her face, her limbs to reveal herself to the spectators, or rather, not herself, but the old gypsy woman she impersonates in the story. She makes the character vivid. It is a keen pleasure to watch her performance. The others in the cast are also suited and equal to their parts. They help to vivify the story. But the story as such owes much perhaps to Louis Mercanton, who directed it. M. Mercanton has been able to produce a photoplay marked by dramatic photography and expressive moving pictures. For one thing, he seems to be endowed with an imagination. Many of his scenes are eloquent because in making them he thought more of what they might mean to the spectators than of their literal resemblance to reality. The result is that they seem real. His settings, for example, are not crowded, and each scene emphasizes the point it is meant to emphasize. The picture also seems truthfully, as well as effectively, staged and costumed. Of the story it need be said only that it is an old gypsy legend, with the elements of mystery, romance and conflict demanded by the public at large.
