If there are any who supposed that a prolonged coa strike would bring no serious setback to business they must now be finding it somewhat hard to maintain that view, Reports from the iron and steel industry are to the effect that prospective coal shortage is already serving to check the growth in activity that has been under way for some time past and which would otherwise undoubtedly continue for some time to come. Should the strike remain "effective" for as long a period as now seems likely many other industries will inevitably be affected either directly or indirectly and seriously. This eems to be the chief immediate aim of the miners, but have they stopped to consider who must bear the brunt of the hardship involved? If business is crippled and plants now operating forced to shut down, it will be the wage earner who will suffer most immediately and most severely, unemployment has already greatly reduced the reserves upon which can rthe worker must depend in periods of this sort and hework ill afford to face a period of much greater shortage of and wages. These facts should weigh much more heavily upon the minrla nf hoth the radical miners and the reactionary oper tnr9 than it aDDears to do. It becomes clearer with each passing day that vigorous steps should be taken at Washing ton to induce these warring ana senisn groups io come m n early and reasonable understanding and thus save a reviv ng business from serious setback. We confess that prejudice against the business has been fostered by let- going to" be changed so far as we are able to change it. We shall try in these to anadvertisements swer every question about the gas business that hae puzzled you. If we seem to be overlook- ing any, kindly write us about it and it will be answered.
