Show U P BRANCH COMING there have been many indications during the past two weeks that the prospects are rapidly growing more favorable for the immediate construction of the colorado wyoming eastern astern E railroad into routt county to pro vide I 1 an outlet for the co coal al and other products of routt county over a low grade and a line which could be easily kept open during the most severe winter weather this new road would be an extension of the present railroad leading from laramie ako into north park leaving that line at north gate near the wyoming line and reaching the mouth of elk ilver u vcr by the construction of 92 miles of new track J J argo of steamboat springs who during the summer has been engaged in railroad construction work near salina kans and who was last week made chief engineer of the colorado wyoming eastern with headquarters at laramie reached steamboat last night on a trip made for the combined purpose of going over the prospective route for the new road and to report upon the ces of the routt county coal fields mr argo was accompanied compa nied by P H ashmead of new york an engineer of the company who is making a full investigation of the probable cost of construction and of the probable revenue which would be earned by the new railroad if built the gentlemen came to seam boat from north park over the route of the survey made by mr argo five years ago for the laramie hahns peak pacific railroad the name under which the colorado wyoming eastern was known before it passed into the hands of its present owners at the receivers sale in june of last year mr ashmead was shown the advantages of the route which wh le h at no point reaches ad an altitude iri in excess of feet and which has no grades exceeding two per cent in crossing the continental div divide ia I 1 it t is located at all points on ahe south slopes where the danger of block bit ak ades by snow would be ed to a minimum and on its way south it passes so close to the inet met mining district Hahns of peak and the rich coal deposits of the deep creek and pilot knob coal fields that these could be easly reached by short branches the trip to steamboat springs was made on horseback and arthur W payne of north gate was a member of the party he having charge of the horses with which he will return today this morning argo and ashmead start on a trip by auto to the differ different eni coal c oal districts of routt county yand jand will make a thorough investigation of bhe the amount of traffic whiple could be ae developed in the neighborhoods nei gabor of milner and mt harris on wolf creek in twentymile Twenty mile park ark and the country south of hayden and f in n california park upon the report made by mr ashmead when he cretu returns ans to new york will probably depend V he he decision as to when the work of construction donst ruction will commence although both gentlemen feel very confident that this will be lat ater eithan than next spring when president herbert of them the colorado wyoming eastern was in steamboat springs a couple of months ago he stated that the victor american fuel company interests has agreed to furnish sufficient braf fie facto to the road from their mines now about to be develd developed ped to make the new railroad self sup porting from the start and that while it was now nou very difficult to 0 secure funds for any new enterprise ter er certain 9 capitalists in wall street felt very favorably inclined toward furnishing the necessary jibney the fact that mr argo has since ed chief engineer indicates that increased ncr eased confidence is felt that this his new railroad outlet irom from routt county will soon be built sentinel steamboat springs aprin gs 1 |
