Show DRAGON TIMES BIG HORN SHEEP IN THE ROAD! ATLAS EIS REMINDER: While driving to town, I had the pleasure of seeing the rear end and then the whole of a big horn working on the Atlas Tailings/ Round sheep. Near mile marker 9, the animal veered quickly in front of my car, then galloped along in front of me. At first I thought it was a deer. The rump was large and all white; deer, as I remember, have just a white tail. Then I noticed its horns; definitely not a deer’s. After 100 paces or so, the sheep veered off to the left, agilely climbing the steep hill side. After a short distance he stood on a boulder and watched me. Idling at a blind corner,I soon headed for town. My daughter, Mara, tells me that a similar incident happened in the same location as the school bus was going to town. The sheep ran in front of the bus for a ways before heading for higher ground. Although big horn sheep are not plentiful, they can be seen from time to time in the area (like on Rt. 191 across from Atlas, of all places). Seeing one on a routine trip to town, however,.is an experience that reminds me why living here is special. Joan Sangree The Castle Valley residents - DECEMBER 15, 1995 - AS THE WORLD TURNS Welcome Winter Solstice—- Winter season begins Thurs, Mtn. situation wish to remind CV residents to write for copies of the EIS. The EIS is still expected to be released early next year. Any letters that residents can write to the other addresses (governor, senators, etc.) can only help. Again, at issue is whether or not approximately 14,000 truckloads of Round Mountain will be blasted and hauled out of Castle Valley, taken down the River Road, and used to cover the old Atlas tailings pond! A project that is hardly in our best interests. ATLAS TAILINGS ADDRESSES: Dec 21st, 9:06am,.
