Hr was bom Dec. 11, 1923, in Fairview to Frank H. and LaPriel Brough Larsen. He was a member of the LDS Church and was well known and friendly with all people in the North Sanpete area. Anderson has returned to live in his hometown after 57 years, which included traveling over 1 million miles at sea while serving his country and having lived in Massachusetts. He was bom in Fountain Green in 1918 to A. A. and Jennie Larsen Anderson, in the family home at 100 South 500 West. He attended first through ninth grades in Fountain Green Elementary School, then grades 10 through 12 at Moroni High School, graduating in 1936. He joined the U.S. Navy in December 1937 and went through training in San Diego, C A. He served aboard the USS Milwaukee, the USS Henderson, the UAS Ashville (a gun boat out of Hong Kong), the USS Marble Head in the Asiatic fleet in China, the USS Chaumont and the USS Massachusetts during the South African invasion. He was in the Pacific from 1943-4- 5 at Iwo Jima and Tokyo. He also served aboard the USS Barbett, the USS Columbus during the Korean War, on the USS Staten Island (an ice breaker in the Arctic) and on the USS Charles Ware. Duane married Penny Doherty from Boston, MA, in 1944 in Salt Lake City.
