Wheu Uncle Sam called His boys, in their prime, Three hundred thousand Formed his battle line Determined like our Grandfathers of yore To defeud the boon They gave us before, And to silence the last Tory voices, we swore. When we marched the hoys Through the mirey mud, Toward the battles noise, Into fire and blood; We now claim the right To tell the story, How our blue blouses Were often dyed gorej, Coaxing gray trousers To stay with Old Glory. Now I am three score Years and over ten; Limping, sick and sore Into borrowed time I feel a-way back Number among men, We enjoy the boon We saved for them then. One thing "drilled soldiers That first bad break taught, From short term "sogers," Uncle Geo. MeKenzie return ed laU Sunday from Chico, Cal. where he has been with the Construction Con-struction Company. The cli mate there had such an ef fect upon his lungs that be be came quite ill and was compel led to return to his native Utah valley. When he began to smell the snge brush of Nevada, and later the the health laden ether of Utah be began to feel like Job's war horse, and is now on the way to complete recovery. He brings most favorable reports re-ports from the works. Every thing is going nicety now, although al-though at first there was some detention in consequence of the ground not having been cleared, it having been the work of an other company. The right of way was covered with a magnificent magni-ficent growih of saw timber that had to be cut down, logged up and rolled off the ground, to be graded, then the huge stumps have to be extracted and taken out of lh way.- Our boys are furnished the powder, ami are paid for moving them, and they are permitted to keep their own time, and the pay is satisfactory. After the stumps have been cleared away the work is O. K. in fact, as good as anticipated. -Capt "Mack" has no fears, as to the ultimate outcome, that it will be a success, financially, and that the grade will be completed by Sept. 151 h. The Old Folks' Day . i i esieruay was a uaj u the Old Folks. It was a perfect day as regards the weather, cool and delightful. The Meeting House grove was decorated with red, white and green, and Old Glory flut ered conspicuously. The house was made cosy and comfortable, and the atmosphere atmos-phere was rich with the aroma of flowers..
